Like all of Southern California, Chino Hills gives you plenty of fun if you like the great outdoors. Any vehicle can take you to Prado Regional Park with over 2,000 acres of open space for hiking, fishing, and archery.
Pack all the kids in your Jeep Wrangler and bring them to the Chino Creek Wetlands where they’ll learn all about local wildlife with the help of Owlie, the conservation owl. For some solo off-roading time in your Ram truck, head for San Gabriel Canyon Off-Road Park.
Sprucing Up
Much of what Chino Hills has to offer encourages easy access in any vehicle, including stock two-wheel drives. However, the rougher trails may demand that you spruce up your Jeep Wrangler or Gladiator, Ford F-150, GMC Sierra, or other four-wheelers, if you want to make it through.
You can find all the equipment that you need at Adventure Offroad, just a six-minute rush from the center of town.
- From Eucalyptus Avenue, head south on Peyton Drive.
- Make a left at Chino Hills Parkway and continue east for 1.5 miles.
- Make another left at Ramona Avenue.
- Turn left into the entrance of 16701 Beach Boulevard in Chino Hills.
What You Want to Do Around Chino Hills?

Try It Out
When you’re ready to test out your latest improvements, you’ll find plenty of off-road trails around Chino Hills, including the following.
San Gabriel Canyon Off-Highway Vehicle Area (OHV)
Less than an hour north of Chino Hills, this obstacle course, suitable for novices, excites with over 160 acres of sandy and rocky river bed. You’ll explore stream crossings, mud pits, and rock piles but you won’t find any trails. The OHV’s popularity demands that you buy a timed ticket, which is available only for Saturdays, Sundays, and major holidays from 8 AM with an exit by 4:30 PM.
Hungry Valley State Vehicle Recreation Area (SVRA)
This is the third-largest SVRA in the state’s Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division and is located off I-5 in the Tejon Pass, north of Chino Hills. You’ll find the two-hour trip worthwhile when you’ve got over 19,000 acres to explore.
Expect hot and dry conditions in the summers and some snowfall in the winter. Best times to come are during the spring and fall, which both have mild temperatures and occasional rain showers to reduce the dust. You can challenge yourself on numerous trails from 3,000 to 6,000 feet for all skill levels.
Maple Spring Road
Head about an hour south to Maple Spring Road in the Cleveland National Road and you can drive the Connector trail that climbs up to 4,850 feet. You’re here for the views, so climb to the top of Saddleback Mountain. Right after the rain, colorful wildflowers and green acres will frame vistas of Catalina Island, Orange County, and the California Coast.
Old Dale Road
About two hours east, you can marvel at the exotic plant life at Joshua Tree National Park, one of the largest in the country. Old Dale Road is just one of the many trails you can enjoy through the extensive desert vegetation.
It takes about 3 hours to rush through its 25.9 miles that tops out at 2,446 feet. You may want to make an overnight trip out of it, so you can take in sights like the Old Dale Mining District.
